WHAT TO SEE IN SITTONG
'Sittong a beautiful village near Darjeeling, famous for its Orange Gardens', Sittong is a hill station of Darjeeling District under the Kurseong Subdivision, Sittong is famous for its Orange Gardens and beautiful scenic views, and peaceful environment.
SITTONG TOURIST PLACES
Reserve cab for sightseeing is available from the Homestay and the fare is around Rs 3000 for the small cab and Rs 3500 for the Suv.
- ORANGE GARDEN: Sittong is famous for its orange gardens, from December to January is the pick time to see Oranges.
- NAMTHING POKRI (LAKE): This is a beautiful lake and also a sacred place for locals, during the rainy season and winter the lake gets filled with water and the reflection of the surrounding trees falls into the water making it more scenic. Also, a rare and endangered Salamander fish can be found here.
- AHALDARA VIEWPOINT: This is the most beautiful place in Sittong located on Selphu Hills, if the sky is clear Mt Kanchenjunga can be seen from here, also this place has a beautiful tea garden and sincona plantation, sincona is used for the preparation of Malaria medicine. Also, there are homestay facilities if someone wants to stay.
- JOGIGHAT BRIDGE: This bridge is another beautiful point in Sittong, this bridge connects Mungpoo with Upper Ghalaytar, this bridge is 74 meters long and 5 meters wide, this bridge was inaugurated by Baba Ramdev in the year 2015. Tourists stop by this bridge to take photographs of the beautiful surrounding and the river flowing beneath the bridge.
- MANGPOO RABINDRA MUSEUM: Here you can see Quinine Medicine Factory (Entry Restricted) and besides that Rabindra Museum where Great Author Rabindranath Tagore used to come, here you can see Art and Artifacts related to his visit here.
- LATPANCHAR: This is a new tourist place near Sittong, which is famous for Birds sightings, this is a part of Mahananda Forest, among the animals that are found here, are rare Mountain Goat, Leopards, Gaurs, Wild Boars, Deers, different kinds of birds and many more.
HOW TO REACH SITTONG
Sittong can be reached in 2 ways, via Sevoke Road and Via Kurseong, the route via Kurseong is long about 54 KM whereas via Sevoke road it's 40 KM.
The shared cab can is available from Salughara which is in Siliguri, the number of shared options are very less.
Reserve cab is available directly from NJP or Bagdogra, the cab fare is between Rs 2500 to Rs 3000 based on the season.
If you go via Kurseong, the advantage is you can cover the sightseeing places of Kurseong.
WHERE TO STAY AT SITTONG
There are no hotels in Sittong, mostly you will see Homestays, the charges vary from Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 / Head / Day.
BEST TIME TO VISIT SITTONG
Sittong can be visited all around the year except during the monsoon, the best time is December to February when you can see Oranges in the tree. Summers are also a good time to relax few days at a cool temperature.
