ABOUT KALIMPONG
Kalimpong is a small town in the Indian state of West Bengal, it was earlier a subdivision of the Darjeeling district, but is now a separate district of West Bengal. It is located at an average elevation of 1,250m/4,100ft. Kalimpong is known for its educational institutions from the British era. The weather remains pleasant most of the year. Kalimpong is also a famous tourist spot, for its beautiful landscape, flower market, orchid, cactus garden, pine forests, and others. Kalimpong Tour has become a very popular tour in India.

DAY TRIP FROM KALIMPONG
Lava is a small village from Kalimpong to Lava the distance is 32 km and takes a 1.5 Hr drive, Loleygaon from Lava takes around a 2-hour drive. Lava is a silent village surrounded by dense forest, close to the lava market is the Lava Monastery, it’s a beautiful Monastery surrounded by a beautiful view of the mountain. lava is the gateway of the famous Neora Valley national park, it’s 10 Km away. You can also visit Changey Waterfall is about 12 km from Lava.
Loleygaon is a small village, at an altitude of 5,520ft and surrounded by forests. You can visit Eco-park and spend some time there enjoying nature, there is a small bazaar opposite Eco-park you can get something to eat then head toward a canopy walk, it’s a hanging wooden bridge that goes through the forest, the bridge swings giving a thrill and enjoyment.
HOW TO REACH KALIMPONG
The nearest railway junction is New Jalpaiguri and the airport is Bagdogra. From Siliguri, it takes about 2.5 hours (65 km) and from Darjeeling, it takes about 2.5 hours (55 km) to reach Kalimpong by car.
From NJP/Bagdogra a small car charges approx Rs 2200-2500 and a bigger one Rs 2500-3000. Shared Jeep available from Kalimpong Taxi stand at Siliguri, charges Rs 175 each, bus service also available from Siliguri bus stand. The cars mostly go via Sevoke, after crossing Sevoke you can enjoy beautiful views of the mountain.
WHERE TO STAY IN KALIMPONG
I would encourage you to check online for other hotels as per your choice. There are many budget hotels available like Mongolian Retreat, near Kanchan Cinema,10 mins walk from the main bazaar, and luxury hotels available at Kalimpong, Hotel Gompus is located in the middle of the town, it’s a good hotel. You can use Hotel Gompus to calculate the distance from your hotel to the main town.
There are also many restaurants and many street food options available, in the main town, there are small restaurants that make delicious Momos. You will get all types of food in the main town, South Indian or North Indian, Fish Curry, and others.
KALIMPONG TOUR PLAN – 4 DAYS 3 NIGHTS
- DAY 1: After reaching NJP / Bagdogra, you can book a cab or take a shared cab from Siliguri and then reach Kalimpong. you can visit the local market, explore Haat Bazar (Wed & Sat) try local food, and buy handmade products, visit Mangal Dham nearby.
- DAY 2: you can take a small car for a full day of local sightseeing which charges around Rs 2400-2700 or you can take a half-day for around Rs 1400-1600 or you can take mixed local sightseeing which will charge around Rs 1500-1700, which will show you popular sightseeing pleases. Please always ask your driver what places will be covered before booking. Delo park is the most attractive point in local sightseeing where people spent most of their time.
- DAY 3: You can take a day trip to Lava & Loleygaon, for the day trip to Lava a small car charges around Rs 2800-3000 and a bigger one charges Rs 3200-3500, I will suggest taking an SUV/Jeeps for this trip as the road condition is not so good and small cars face trouble driving smoothly
- DAY 4: Today is the day to say Kalimpong goodbye, and return with beautiful memories.
For return from Kalimpong to NJP/Bagdogra, you will get a shared and reserved car from Kalimpong Bus/Taxi stand.
